CALLING ALL HANDBELL RINGERS!!!

There is an interest in creating a community handbell ensemble and you’re invited to join us! Whether you have prior experience or simply want to try it out, all church and community friends are welcome to attend Wednesday evening rehearsals at 6:30 p.m., beginning June 4th at the L’Anse United Methodist Church. Adults and kids 11 years and older are most welcome. We’ll likely “start small,” but the goal is to create a bell choir that has fun, plays both sacred and secular music, and participates in worship services of various denominations and in community events. If you have questions, please contact Sally Klaasen at 524-2420. Thanks to Sacred Heart School for the use of their bells…and let’s help spread the ministry of music to one and all!!  Regards, Sally Klaasen

LENTEN COOKBOOK

The Faith Formation Program is looking at the possibility of putting together a Cookbook as a fund raiser. We are looking to see if there is any interest in such a fund raiser. If you are interested, please let the parish offices, Fr. George, or Christy Miron know.

We had such a nice turn out for our “Lenten Soup Supper” at St. Ann’s, forty different soups this past Lent, that we started thinking about “A Lenten Cookbook.” All of the recipes would be “without meat or meat products.” We have a good start with those forty recipes plus those from last Lent.

What would be looking for? Meatless soups, meatless casseroles, and main dishes. Many of us find it hard to fix meals on the Fridays of Lent. This would be an excellent way to have, at our fingertips, a whole book of recipes.

REMINDERS:  Special meeting of the KCs on June 9th at 6:30 p.m. at the KC Hall to plan for the upcoming Fish Fry on June 13th. Please plan to attend!

WE ARE IN DIRE NEED OF AN ORGANIST FOR SATURDAY EVENING MASSES. IF YOU KNOW OF SOMEONE WHO WOULD BE ABLE AND WILLING TO MAKE THIS COMMITMENT, PLEASE CALL THE PARISH OFFICE.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Often in my years of ordination I have heard such things as these:  "Why are you depriving my child of Baptism", "What do you mean that I have to be practicing my faith to be married in the Church,"  "I am a catholic so I deserve…"

The Church has never denied the sacraments to anyone.  It is the parents, or the couple coming to the Church who deny the sacraments to their children and themselves.

We as a nation believe whole heartily that what we want we should get. We have a very strong "I deserve" mentality.  We don't believe that there are consequences to our actions.  We don't worry about the part that our actions or non-actions have in our daily lives, as the case may be.  We have been taught that there are no consequences to our actions.  It is always someone else's fault and none of our own.  Many believe in the "Free Ride" theory of life.

Our Church has always taught that we are responsible for our own actions or in-actions.  Jesus has continually told us that we must "pick up our cross and follow Him."   The most important way that we are called to do this is in our attendance at Communal Public Worship of God or in easier terms – going to Mass.  We are asked to give one hour to God in public worship.  it is very easy to think of reasons why we should not go to Mass on Sundays but the Eucharist (the Body and Blood of Jesus) is the source (where we receive strength to make it through the week) and the summit (there is nothing greater that can or will happen to us during the week) of our week and of our lives.

Jesus shares with us this great love of His.  It’s we, ourselves, that deprive our children and ourselves of the sacraments of Jesus Christ, most times because we refuse to celebrate with Him on Sundays and then blame someone else.

God Bless you,

Fr. George
