From Bishop Baraga…”Sunday – extraordinary day of work! From 4 o’clock in the morning until 10 o’clock at night I had worked uninterruptedly:

remarkably many confessions, five sermons, twenty-three baptisms and three confirmations.”

Dear Friends,

Hope you are all enjoying this Memorial Day weekend. Together with all the fun and excitement, let us take some time to remember all who fought and died for our freedom and all who are fighting for the security of our country and for world peace.

We are having a Mass celebrated in the Most Holy Name of Jesus Cemetery for all those who have gone before us after doing their contribution to our society and to the world. This celebration of the Memorial Day invites us to commit ourselves for a bright future for the world and for World peace.

Hope this summer brings a lot of fun and family time for you. Don't let your spiritual life slide down during this season. Please make sure that you get to Mass on all the weekends even when out of town. When you get to a new place find out where the Catholic Church is and make sure you attend the weekend Mass.

Please pray for all our young couples getting married during this summer and afterwards. May God shower His choicest blessings on them so that they stay together until death as a good Christian family.

Have a funfilled and safe summer.

Fr.  Augusitn George

HUMANE WHAT???

On July 25, 1968 Pope Paul VI took a courageous step when he issued an encyclical to Catholics on where we stand as clergy and laity on contraception. He knew it would cause controversy among people. Pope Paul VI put aside what he was opening himself to and issued Humanae Vitae (Of Human Life).

Many of you were teenagers or younger when this document came out; others were parents in their 20s and 30s, while most of you were not yet born. If you are not familiar with this document, you can view it on: www.hli.org go to the link on the left side of the screen and click on Humanae Vitae; if you do not have a computer, it can be purchased through Sacred Heart Religious Store in Marquette, or from Pauline Books & Media, 50 Saint Pauls Avenue, Boston MA 02130-3491. This encyclical is not long but is packed with what we, as Catholics, believe.

Contraception is the precursor to abortion; it does not happen only in January. It is our duty to pray for those trapped in the culture of death.

Pray the St. Michael the Archangel Prayer. Yours in Christ, Anne Williams
