A LENTEN COOKBOOK

There has been a very positive response to our idea of producing “A Lenten Cookbook”, so the Faith Formation Office is moving forward with this project. All proceeds from the sale of the cookbooks will go to the Faith Formation program for our three area parishes.

Many of us find it hard to come up with meal ideas for the Fridays of Lent. This would be an excellent way to have, at our fingertips, a whole book of recipes. We are asking anyone who is interested to submit to us their recipes for meatless soups, meatless casseroles or main dishes,  meatless sandwiches, and salad and bread recipes.

Recipes can be submitted to the parish office. Please make sure all ingredients are listed and the directions are clear. Also, please include your name and phone number in case we have a question about the recipe.

Thank you for your support of this project!.....Christy

Dear Friends,

I am thanking God for letting Fr. George and me serve and minister to you for the past three years. We complete our three years this June. Thank you one and all for your prayers, support, guidance and above all the sharing of faith.

Gas prices are sky rocketing, the economy is hurting and nobody seems to be doing anything to make it alright. These are the ten things that I feel like doing.

1. Reduce driving and walk to the nearby destinations (to the store, to Church, to neighbors, etc.).

2. Avoid unnecessary trips by planning things ahead of time.

3. Carpool especially when you know someone is going to the same destination that you want to go.

4. Explore and enjoy nearby sites like Bishop Baraga Shrine or the different spots in the UP rather than going to far away places.

5. Turn off the heat especially when it is getting warm now.

6. Plant a vegetable garden for every family; make children also take part in gardening.

7. Plant flowers and vegetables in a one to one ratio.

8. Support our local businesses as much possible.

9. Avoid unnecessary mailing and handdeliver letters and cards to the neighbors.

10. Use water and electricity responsibly.

There is no vacation to spiritual life. So please make it to one of the weekend Masses, wherever you are vacationing. Encourage children also, especially those who are Confirmed to attend one of the weeked Masses. Please make use of the Vacation Bible School for your children. It will be a fun time. Mark your calendars for our Parish Picnic on the 19th of July after the 5:30 p.m.Mass.

Already we are hearing about the several summer accidents. Take extra caution during the whole summer especially with regard to young people. Make sure you keep an eye on them when they are having fun.

Have a safe and funfilled summer.

Fr Augustin

The “Art of Dressing Up” in our society seems to becoming a lost Art. We no longer “Dress Up” for weddings, funerals and most especially for coming to Church. All people, no matter how poor they were always had their “Sunday Best” clothes.

Now a days people don’t bother. They feel that others should accept them as they are which is good and proper in most, but not all cases.

A gentle reminder as summer approaches: As it gets warmer in the summer, we sometimes forget that we are wearing summer clothing that may not be appropriate for attending Mass. Please be aware of how you are dressed in coming into God’s presence.

I would also like to remind those who are acting in the name of the parish to dress appropriately.

I am well aware that some will say that God doesn’t care what I wear as long as I am in church. This may be true – God may not care, but it is one way that we can show respect and reverence to God and those present in the Church.

Fr. George
