SACRED HEART SCHOOL RUMMAGE SALE NEWS:

A million thank yous to everyone who helped out in any way. We brought in $2,500.00 for the school and then donated items to Bayside, St. Vinney’s,  Sister Maria’s white elephant sale and to a group of ladies who make quilts and rugs for others in need. Father Augustin has a great vision for next year to include a bake sale and other activities for everyone to come out and enjoy – a “summer splash.”

Thank you again and may God bless you abundantly for all your support!

FROM LADIES AUXILIARY…A huge thank you to the men of the parish who painted the handicapped entrance and took the quarter round from around the church carpet. Thank you to:  Bill Turner, who organized and worked the paint project, Rod Bolton, Howie Chartier, Joe Gabe, Earl Harrington, Don Perrow, Al Niemela and Tom Voskuhl. A wonderful job done!

Thank you, also, to Liz Turner who prepared and served the Monday noon meal and to Mary Ann Voskuhl and Carol Marinich for preparing and serving the Tuesday noon meal.

The church and handicapped entrance are now ready for the new carpet which should be put down by the middle of July.

Once again, THANK YOU!!

Sign in front of church:  “Come early and get a good seat in the back.”

TRAINING FOR NEW ALTAR SERVERS:

There will be a training session held for anyone who wishes to become an altar server on Wednesday, June 25 from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. in the church. Students who are attending Vacation Bible School in the morning will be fed lunch prior to the altar server training. Please contact Mary Mervar at 524-5512 or Christy Miron at 524-7585 or faith1st@up.net if you have any questions.

RECIPES NEEDED:  It’s time to submit your recipes for our Lenten cookbook fundraiser! We need recipes in the following categories: soup, sandwiches, main dishes, bread and rolls, vegetables and side dishes, miscellaneous. We will be submitting the recipes to the cookbook company through their website, so please do not spend the time recopying your recipes if you don’t have to. You can either email them to Christy Miron at faith1st@up.net or Fr. George at frgsm@up.net or bring them in to either parish office and we will photocopy them for you. We need a minimum of 150 recipes for the book, so don’t be shy! Thank you for your support of this great project!

Plan to attend the BISHOP BARAGA BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION at the Bishop Baraga Shrine next weekend, June 28 and 29th. The festivities will include a cookout, pasties, ice cream, games and activities, and a special prayer service on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. during which we hope to relight the spotlights to shine on the great statue. If you can help with the celebration and haven’t returned your volunteer slip, please call the Shrine Gift Shop (524-7021) to let us know you can help. We need many helpers to make this a special event. Thanks and God bless you!!  Sr. Maria

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

“AND JESUS WEPT”…We have all most likely heard this statement before but not like this.  When minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities.  Instead this is what he said:

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance.  We know Your Word says…”Woe to those who call evil good”… but … that is what we have done.

…We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.  We confess this.

…We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism.

…We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.

…We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.

…We have killed our unborn and called it choice.

…We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.

…We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.

…We coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition.

…We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of statement.

…We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today… cleanse us from every sin and set us free.

Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us, to the center of Your will and to openly ask these things in the name of Your Son and Savior Jesus Christ our Lord.  AMEN.

The response was immediate.  A number of legislators walked out “during” the prayer in protest.  I guess it must have hit a nerve.  It is about time that we, as a nation, as a society, clean up our act and change our life style of apathy, complacency, and evil and return to the life of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

God Bless you,

Fr. George

A MATTER OF LIFE

After passage in the Michigan House & Senate on Friday, June 13, Gov. Granholm vetoed the partial birth abortion ban. Prior to the Governor’s signing, Barbara Listing, Right to Life President, requested, in writing, to meet with the Governor to discuss this issue but Granholm refused.

Gov. Granholm has been the stumbling block in the way of Michigan’s citizens finally getting their long sought-after ban on the late term abortion procedure.

We, as Catholics, being people of life must let the Governor know our feelings on her actionsl Following is an address to which you may reach the Governor:

Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm

P.O. Box 3008

Lansing, MI 48909

God bless you and the Holy Spirit guide you!
